Here’s what you should consider. The frame, and the mirror itself. And it’s all about personal preference. We all have different opinions about what mirrors we like.
Do you want to make it look like it has been around for decades? Here are instructions on how to make a mirror look resemble an antique.
- Plastic Taping Knife
- Glass Cleaner
- Chip Brush
- Flat Black Spray Paint
Step 1: Making the Frame Look Old
You can age the frame of the mirror in several different ways. Paint the frame with gold gilding wax. If you want to make it look older, paint a layer of dark wax polish around the cracks, corners, and crevices.
Step 2: Transforming the Mirror
There is a lot more to transforming the mirror to look old than one thinks. Be aware that it involves chemicals.
Step 3: Apply Stripping Gel
Pour Citristrip on the back of the mirror, and brush it over the back of the mirror. Let it sit for 30 minutes. After, take a 4-inch plastic knife, and wrap a rag around it.
Step 4: Spray Bleach
Once you are finished with the gel, spray bleach on the mirror. Spray any corner of it. Here’s a tip. Most mirrors age at the corners and edges. Let the bleach do its work and then rinse it once you are satisfied with the work. Finish it off with bronze and now your mirror is finished.
